John Waters

Filmmaker

John Waters is well known for breaking the boundaries of what is acceptable on film. He began his career as an underground filmmaker in Baltimore in the late 1960s, but his big break came when his infamous1972 film, Pink Flamingoes, helped start the Midnight Movie phenomenon. John's collaborations with the actor Divine include some of his most popular films, such as Female Trouble (1974), Polyester (1981), and Hairspray (1988). An accomplished mixed media artist, John is also the author of several books, including Shock Value and Crackpot: The Obsessions of John Waters. John Waters' most recent film is A Dirty Shame (2004).
